Umbra Curtain Poles Designed By Mauricio Affonso

Umbra is a company based in Toronto that designs and manufactures housewares and was founded in 1978 by Les Mandelbaum and Paul Rowan who had been friends since childhood. The company today produces over 2,000 products and has 25,000 distributors in 120 countries.

In 2007 the company opened its first retail store in Toronto and now has it own retail outlets in several countries across the globe. One of Umbra’s most famous designs was the Garbo trash can, named after the actress, as the design mimicked the shape of her body. It was designed by Karim Rashid and sold over two million units in the first two years after the 1996 launch. It still sells well today, along with the Garbino, which is a smaller version.
Among its’ many products, the company produces a range of Umbra curtain poles, many of which are extendable so that they can fit windows of different sizes. Umbra curtain poles include the Cappa curtain rod which was designed by Mauricio Affonso and features a contemporary design that is intended to complement curtains or drapes without drawing the attention away from them.

The Cappa curtain rod is extendable from 33 inches to 120 inches long and can hold light and medium weight curtains. It is only ¾ inch in diameter and can support a maximum weight of 22lbs. The curtain rod is made in a high-quality metal with a contemporary brushed nickel finish. The Cappa is described as a stylish design with universal appeal that is suitable for any room in the home including the bedroom, living room, dining room, family room, or kitchen. It comes with everything needed to install it including three adjustable wall-mounted curtain brackets, drywall anchors, screws, and two cast metal finials.

Another of the Umbra curtain poles is the Allure. This is also extendable and comes in two sizes of 36 – 72 inches and 72 – 144 inches. This is a metal curtain rod with a nickel finish and knob shaped finials inspired by classic millwork. As with all of the Umbra products, it comes with a five-year guarantee.
