Modern Furniture Uses a Lot of Acrylic

Modern furniture designs today have shifted away from using traditional materials like wood, and now incorporate a lot of plastics and acrylic. There is a great tendency towards using bar stools, both for a bar and for use in the kitchen for eating from a counter.

For example, the company Kartell produce a bar stool which has four legs and is of vintage design, but is made of see-through acrylic. This bar stool is what they refer to as a "Ghost" stool because it is so clear it is almost as if it does not exist. It is moulded from a single piece of acrylic which makes it extremely strong, and shatter and chip-proof. It is also stackable, and it is weatherproof as well, so can be used on the patio.

Umbra use outstanding modern furniture designs for their bar stools too. Like Kartell, they produce a bar stool in clear acrylic, again moulded in one piece, but the design is extremely minimalist. It doesn't have four legs but looks as though it has been made from a single long sheet of acrylic that has simply been moulded into a shape to make a seat and foot rest. Really a very clever piece of design and worthy of a place in any 21st century home. Kartell also make a piece of furniture which is similarly moulded from a single piece of acrylic and can be used either as a stool or a side table. This is available not only in clear acrylic, but in a choice of colours to match your room.

Modern furniture designs also include a number of different side tables including one from Kartell which is called the Tip Top Mono side table. It has a circular base and a central pole which widens towards the top as it forms into a larger circular top. If you want to, you can just tip it upside down so that you now have a table with a larger base and a smaller top. It is light weight and comes in a choice of three colours.
