A Small Selection of Furniture Produced By Kartell
The Italian design firm Kartell have produced a lot of furniture over the years. There is quite a big range of seating of various types – dining chairs, sofas, office chairs, garden chairs, and so on. Some of the chairs in the Kartell furniture range are designed by Philippe Starck and are called the Ghost range because you can see right through them, being made of a clear plastic. Some of these chairs and stools are produced with a colour tint of gold or blue, but you can still see through them, and they appear to be hardly there, hence the name.
Designer Patricia Urquiola has produced some high back chairs which have different bases, so there is a rocking chair and an office swivel chair in addition to a standard four-legged version. These are available in black or white, together with a choice of several different colours.
Philippe Starck has also designed some single chairs that look very comfortable with padded seats and backs in a selection of different patterns, while there is also a collection of seating for restaurants and cafes. A further selection of bar and restaurant seating is designed by Antonio Citterio and is called Spoon, because the seat part is curved in a fashion somewhat reminiscent of a spoon.
Kartell also produces a range of sofas and settees which look really comfortable with deep padded seats and plenty of depth to them. Piero Rissoni has designed some three-seater sofas which not only have very deep-padded seating, but massive armrests on each end, large enough to hold a drinks tray comfortably.
In addition, there is the Invisible table (and chairs to go with it) by designer Tokujin Yoshioka in a clear plastic which he designed back in 2012 and which won a Good Design Award in 2012, and reddot design award, best of the best, in 2013. The table and chairs are of such clear plastic that they really are nearly invisible.
The above is only a very small selection of the furniture produced by Kartell. Their 2019 catalogue has 162 pages of furniture designs in it.
