How to decorate modern fireplace

A fireplace highlights the interests and the experiences of the homeowner.   Whether your fireplace is made from brick, stone or metal (and even if it’s not a functioning fixture but merely a design piece), you can find a way to decorate your fireplace just right so you’re guest will love to visit you time and time again.

Most modern fireplaces are designed with minimal styles created to give a room a relaxing ambience without cluttering the space. But has this always been the case?

What are fireplaces for?
Historically, they were used for purposes such as heating up a room, heating water for laundry and domestic uses and even cooking!  They were also once a place to just warm up your feet and cozy up during a cold day.

These days, fireplaces make a stylistic statement, and now they are pieces for center of attention more than for their function. But there’s no reason it can’t be functional as well as having a fireplace is what one needs to be winter-ready, to snuggle up on long winter evenings in front of roaring fire,

Ways to decorate the fire place
There are some simple fireplace accessories you can use to light up a living space in order to maximize the aesthetic appeal of your home.
  • Put candles of different sizes, shapes and containers on the fire hearth to create a gentle flickering glow.
  • Create an illusion by placing an oversized mirror that fakes an extra window by establishing a bright focal point above the fireplace.
  • Arrange an array of mismatched pots in many sizes and shapes, filled with hearty (and low-maintenance!) succulents or ferns around the hearth to create an alluring space.
  • Lean framed art works within the fireplace. It helps when you don’t have enough space to display your favorite pieces, since a fireplace is the first thing to catch your attention.
  • Fresh bloom, hardy houseplants and a comfy seat make the fireplace an inviting place, even on warmer days.
  • Assemble your favorite vintage antique near the fireplace. It gives your fireplace a rustic feel.
